Seeking: $45 pasta + wine nights, Halloween events, & a secret leaf-peeping spot
+ my new favorite cozy patio HH
Hello! I had started a post about community building based on the success of our summer Pickle Bánh meetups, but it needs a little more time to cook, so that will come your way next week.
I’ll be sharing a few Halloween-specific recs in the On My Radar section below, but also wanted to link to last year’s October posts which rounded up all the farms, festivals, and spooky things that are mostly all still happening this year too:
Would love to know what kinds of seasonal things you’re getting up to this year in the comments!
💎 Local gems

In order from left to right:
Kubota Garden | Rainier Valley | I firmly believe this is one of the most tranquil and uncrowded leaf-peeping spots in the city (as long as you go during the week). I spent an hour here last night with my pops at 4 pm and we basically had it to ourselves.
Washington Park Arboretum Waterfront Trail | Montlake | Somehow I’d never been to this floating loop trail around Foster and Marsh Island in the Arboretum until last weekend. It was a gorgeous day to walk it and thankfully not muddy or flooded. Highly recommend tacking it on to your next stroll through the park.
El Sirenito | Georgetown | I’ve found a new favorite HH spot! Georgetown is slept on since it’s hard to get to, but it’s got some serious gems. We were going to go to Fonda La Catrina next door, but I spotted the gorgeous covered + heated patio at El Sirenito and knew we had to swap. Their HH was great ($3 tacos, $1-2 off drinks) and on Wednesdays, their mezcal list is half off. The inside is very cozy and romantic too — I have a fantasy of drinking mezcal over a hot vat of queso fundido this winter.
Emerald City Slasher | Fremont | I posted about this in last week’s newsletter and went to check it out over the weekend. It was fun and very silly! The hilarity of the performance seems to depend on what cast you’ve got that night and the characters that get chosen, but it was worth the $25 — I was thoroughly entertained.
👀 On my radar
UNSLUMP! The Music Recommendation Substack
I was stoked to stumble across Seeking Seattle reader
’s Substack where she recommends 7 songs to get you out of a music slump AND puts together a Seattle Show Radar of all the concerts happening that month. Her taste is impeccable and as a fellow curator, I deeply appreciate her concert compilation skills.Terrifying Trails at The Mountaineering Club | U District
The team at The Mountaineering Club reached out to me about sharing their upcoming Halloween events from 10/31 - 11/2, and I’m happy to because 1. I’m a fan, and 2. it’s one of the few Halloween-themed bars you can actually make a reservation at. There will be “creepy cocktails,” “scary snacks,” and a lineup of local DJs throughout the weekend. The festivities will also continue on November 3rd with a Dia de los Muertos party! Plus, a portion of proceeds from Halloween cocktails will go towards conservation efforts.
Other bars serving spooky cocktails + vibes: Dreamland (also hosting themed drag shows), Navy Strength, Rob Roy, Stampede, and The Edgewater Hotel.
Fresh Air Halloween Night Ride | Westlake Park to Fritz Hedges Park
I saw a flyer for this in my neighborhood and was intrigued, so I looked up the details. Fresh Air is a national bike program that “invites cyclists of all levels on a bike ride to businesses with Black owners,” and this Halloween one will start at 5 pm downtown and end in the U District with a seafood boil that you can join for just $10 (honestly a steal).
Pasta + Wine Nights | Various locations
You can now get two pastas and a bottle of wine for $45-60 on almost every night of the week! It’s the perfect reason to drag yourself out of the house on a cold, rainy night. Here are all the places I’ve found offering this deal so far:
Artusi | Sunday & Monday | $45
Tavolata | Monday & Tuesday | $45
Autumn | Tuesday | $50 (this one is less of a deal since it’s intended for one person, but it does include a salad, pasta, dessert, and a glass of wine and it’s a higher end spot)
Darkalino’s | Wednesday | $50
Bar Cotto | Any day | $60 (this one is a 3-course dinner that includes salad, pizza, pasta, and a bottle of wine)
Let me know if you’re aware of any others!
Nervous System Regulation Discussion Panel | University District
My friend Susanna (who I met in my first RealRoots group) is going to be on a panel discussing nervous system regulation and how to incorporate various practices into your toolkit this Sunday at the Lululemon in U Village from 2 - 4 pm. It’s a free event and will be full of very relevant information as we head into the darker months. Plus, there will be free refreshments and raffle prizes!
📆 Weekend events
The Craft at Central Cinema | 10/18 - 10/23 | Central District | $12
Seattle Kraken Pregame at the Armory | Saturday, 10/19 | Uptown | Free
Seattle Oddities & Curiosities Expo | 10/19 - 10/20 | Downtown | $12-15
Fall for SLU Celebration | 10/19 - 10/20 | SLU | Free
What’s next:
12/11 | I’m a fan of the podcast You’re Wrong About and it’s coming to Seattle for a “historical, theatrical, ecstatic spectacular for the living and dead.”
🚨 ICYMI
Kristi Brown of Communion has opened a second location inside Métier Brewing Co. Three great food deals on Capitol Hill (Artusi is one of them!). The Savannah Bananas are coming to Seattle next year (if you’re not familiar, do look them up!) and you have until November 1st to sign up for the ticket raffle. Salmonberry Goods opened up their new neighborhood grocery store in Ballard.
