Since it’s been a bit of a stressful week and my uterus is trying to kill me, I’ve got a shorter newsletter for you this week. But we’ll be back to our regular length next time! Hopefully with more updates on the dashboard I’ve been working on 🙃
*This post is a little long, so don’t forget to expand if it gets cut off in your email!
💎 Local gems
Bloedel Reserve | Bainbridge Island
Full Nudge plan coming on this soon, but what a way to spend a beautiful spring day! The Bloedel Reserve is a 140-acre “wonder of nature,” carefully curated by the founders to feature various gardens and landscapes that you explore while walking on a 2-mile trail.
Getting there: You can of course drive on the ferry and up to the garden, but we walked on the ferry and then called the on-demand BI Ride bus to come pick us up when we got to the other side. It’s $2 to take the bus each way, and you can pay in cash or with the Transit Go app. As a reference, we took the 9:35 am ferry on a Saturday and were able to get to the Reserve just before our 11 am entry time.
The details: You have to buy your tickets in advance online and it’s timed entry so you’ll get 45 minutes past your entry time to enter the reserve. Tickets run from $22-26 depending on the season and they also host a Welcome Wednesday which is a pay-what-you-wish community day on the first Wednesday of each month.
They say that the 2-mile trail will take you about two hours to complete and we found that to be true, even with lots of pausing and slow meandering. There are bathrooms and water cups located at the mid-point in the founder’s residence, but I’d also pack a snack or two if you are prone to getting hangry like me 😇
Afterward, take the bus back to town for some lunch! We went to Proper Fish which is great but greasy — I prefer Ba Sa across the street.
You As An Animal | Fremont
I mentioned this artist’s animal portraits as one of my favorite local gifts in a past newsletter and recently found out that she’s been popping up at the Fremont Sunday Market! I’m not sure what she’s charging in person, but on her site, a single portrait is $25, 1-4 people is $45, and 1-8 is $75. Would be fun to get one done as a group outing or with your SO.
👀 On my radar
Out and About Walks | Various Locations
I’ve seen Sara Anfuso pop up on my TikTok feed before with her long-distance walks around Seattle, but I didn’t know she was hosting community walks until this week! She hosts 2-3 walks each month and the next one is this Friday at 6 pm around Green Lake. I’m excited to join one soon, this seems more my vibe than another walking group I tried out this winter.
Made in House | Fremont
I’m a big fan of BOPBOX in Georgetown, and this restaurant is the newest addition to their family. The Korean-inspired bowls filled with veggies and savory proteins are pretty much my ideal meal. And they’re pretty affordable at $14-15 per bowl! They also serve espresso drinks and have grab-and-go items like kimbap. Lines can be long, but according to their IG, things move pretty fast.
Earth Night Disco | Capitol Hill
I love when y’all send me the cool things you’re creating in the city! Seeking Seattle reader Parker is hosting an Earth Night fundraiser at Cafe Racer this Saturday and all of the proceeds will be donated to Green Seattle Partnership and DJs4CA.
They’ll have vinyl DJs from 6 - 8 pm, Drag/live skaters/bongos from 8 - 10 pm, and"club forward" disco from 10-2 am. Tickets are free until 9 pm and then they'll run from $15-25 depending on when you buy. There will also be a silent auction with passes to Insomniac festivals, Day In Day Out, CHBP, and more in addition to local vendors upstairs.
